Buying a new baby stroller isn’t all that different from buying a new car. You’ll want to ask yourself some of the same questions: How good is the suspension? What kind of terrain can the stroller handle? How does it deal with turns? And what’s kind of storage does it have?
With all the available — and very often expensive — models, buying a baby stroller can seem like you’re making a decision that’s just as weighty as a visit to the dealership, too. Here, an overview of the types of strollers on the market, how to choose the right stroller for your needs and our picks for the best strollers on the market, based on our own testing, as well as a survey of more than 1,000 moms in the What to Expect community.
Types of baby strollers
When stroller shopping, you'll want to keep in mind the different types of strollers on the market.
- Full-size strollers: Put simply, full-size strollers do it all. They let you transport your little bundle from day one and have plenty of storage to hold all of baby's gear.
- Travel systems: Some full-size strollers are also travel systems, meaning they can attach to an infant car seat (often included as part of a set) to easily transition baby from car to stroller. This also tends to be a budget-savvy way to purchase both a stroller and a car seat.
- Umbrella strollers: Many parents prefer lightweight umbrella strollers for travel or quick errands around town. True to name, they fold up like an umbrella, making them portable and compact. The downside? Umbrella strollers are usually not as sturdy as full-size strollers and don't offer tons of storage space.
- Convertible strollers: Some full-size strollers are convertible, meaning they can accommodate one, two or even three children using additional seating configurations.
- Reversible strollers: Also sometimes called modular strollers, reversible strollers offer the option to face your baby towards you (ideal for smaller babies) or facing out (letting bigger infants and toddlers see the world around them).
- Jogging strollers: If you'd like the ability to run with baby, you'll need a jogging stroller for its increased stability and shock absorption. Just note: These options aren’t suitable for newborns — usually baby can’t safely sit in a jogging stroller until about six months.
- Double strollers: Have twins, or a toddler and an infant? A double stroller is a good choice for your family. These baby strollers let you comfortably transport multiple children with two (or sometimes more) seats, either side by side or one in front of the other. Some of these strollers also offer “ride on” boards where older children can stand while you push.
To make the process even more confusing, many strollers fit into multiple categories — for example, some full-size strollers can be convertible, reversible and even used as a travel system.
How to choose the right baby stroller for you
The best stroller for your baby will depend on your family's needs. Here are some things to consider:
- Lifestyle: Do you live in the city and rely on your stroller to get you, well, everywhere? Or do you just need something to keep in the trunk of your car in case you need to run into a store with baby or have a special outing planned? The realities of your day-to-day life directly impact what kind of stroller you need — and whether you might want to splurge on something fancy.
- Family size: Consider your current — and future — family size. If you only have one child or plan to space children multiple years apart, a single stroller might be just fine. But if you have multiples or plan to have siblings in close proximity, you’ll want to consider a convertible or double stroller.
- Conveniences: You may also want to think about how important maneuverability and ease of use is to you. If you’re always juggling a million things, look for a stroller with a one-handed fold. If you’re tall — or have a partner who is a much different height than you are — look for adjustable handlebars. Washable fabrics are always a pro, too.
- Cost: Sometimes, it all boils down to cost. Strollers can be incredibly expensive. If you have sticker shock, know that can get seriously great strollers that come with a more budget-friendly price. And if the timing is right, lots of retailers offer huge rollbacks on shopping holidays like Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Amazon Prime day, which can sometimes offset cost. Just note that making the upfront investment in a quality stroller may actually save you money in the long run — especially if you intend to have multiple kids.
- Space: Consider how much space you have, how many kids you need to accommodate and if you want your baby stroller to come on trips with you.
How we chose the best baby strollers
As noted above, there are a lot of baby strollers on the market — and there’s a lot to consider when selecting the right one for your family. To help you pick the best of the best, we conducted a survey of over 1,000 moms in the What to Expect community to get their feedback on the strollers they've been using to understand their durability and ease of use in a variety of real-world conditions. We also considered feedback from the parents on our staff, as well as a select group of contributing writers and advisors. And finally, we evaluated innovation, design, quality and value.

This stroller boasts many features that parents love. The all-terrain tires make it easy to push whether you’re strolling city streets or a grassy park. It has an adjustable handle that suits caretakers of different heights and a hand-operated brake to easily park baby safely. It can also fold down with one hand and locks automatically in the folded position.
It’s also compatible with many car seat brands and comes with a car seat adapter, so can be used as a travel system.
Babies can lie nearly flat, thanks to the adjustable calf support and reclining seat — and even take a peek at Mom and Dad through the peekaboo window in the extra-long UPF 50 + canopy.

If you have a Graco car seat, you’ll love the convenience of this versatile stroller that has a lower price tag than several other models. One big plus? There’s no need for an adapter; simply pop the car seat in with a single click. Other pros: The Graco Modes Element Stroller has a reversible seat, a one-step, self-standing folding mechanism and a storage tray for parents' belongings. And for added comfort, there's even a large sun canopy, complete with a peekaboo window. Best of all, it'll work from infancy all the way through toddlerhood.

Doona Infant Car Seat/Stroller
![Best strollers Doona](http://images.agoramedia.com/wte3.0/gcms/doona-2021.jpg)

Reviews
For parents on the go, you can’t beat the flexibility and convenience of the Doona, which is actually a car seat and stroller in one that weighs just 16.5 pounds.
Transitioning is easy: Simply click a button, and the Doona goes from a stroller to a car seat. The wheels fold in for car rides, then fold back out again to stroll. Use it on planes, trains and automobiles — this insanely cool system works no matter where the wind takes you.
Don’t expect it to perform quite as well as dedicated strollers, though. The wheels won’t take bumps quite as easily. And because it’s not a true stroller, it’s not the best place for baby to sit for prolonged periods of time. Still, many parents find the convenience of going from car to sidewalk is well worth it.
The biggest downside is longevity — or lack thereof: Once baby hits 35 pounds or 32 inches — somewhere around 1 year old, though often sooner for some children — and outgrows the car seat, you’ll need to spring for both a new car seat and a new stroller.
Dimensions: 39 x 17.3 x 32.2 inches
Weight: 16.5 pounds
Weight limit: 35 pounds
Height limit: 32 inches
"My first baby was big, so it was way too hard for me to carry him, so the Doona was awesome [in[ that I could just pop the wheels out right out of the car and not carry him anywhere. Negatives are it’s extremely heavy, so when you do carry it into the car it’s HARD! But it’s really nice especially if you plan on going places."

Summer Infant 3Dlite Convenience Stroller

The 13-pound Summer Infant umbrella stroller is a great option for on-the-go families, thanks to four different reclining positions that ensure baby can sleep comfortably no matter where the wind takes you, a five-point safety harness for added safety, anti-shock front wheels and lockable rear wheels and a large storage basket for anything you need to tote. It's also offered at a lower price point than other strollers.
This stroller is also quite sturdy, despite its flexibility, so it takes sidewalks and slightly bumpy terrain in stride. At the end of the day, this stroller is a great way to transport babies who weigh as much as 50 pounds — that’s well into toddlerhood. Because of this, many parents say this is one of the best options for traveling.
Dimensions: 18 x 17 x 43 inches
Weight: 13 pounds
Weight/age limit: 6 months up to 50 pounds or 43 inches
"My mom got the Summer Infant 3DLite for us to keep at her house when we visit. I really liked using it and we bought it because they live on dirt roads and it worked really well on them. I’ll say I found it a little cumbersome to fold up, but honestly I only tried a couple times and I’m sure I’d get the hang of it using it more. I thought it was a good stroller for the price especially. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for pushing on uneven terrain."

There’s no denying the expense of the Uppababy Vista V2, but it’s definitely worth its weight in gold — and parents everywhere seem to agree.
The newer version of the original Vista (a 2019, 2020 and 2021 What to Expect Award winner!) offers a smooth ride and a large storage basket underneath — and is totally adaptable. When your child is a newborn, use it with the included bassinet, which was updated from older models to have a longer mattress. When baby grows, move her to the toddler seat — it faces forward or backward — to get a better view of the world around her.
There are plenty of options for multiple kids and bigger toddlers, too. Add a Rumble Seat for a second child and a PiggyBack Ride Along board for older siblings to stand on, for example. Yep, that means you can safely tote three kids with you on a single baby stroller.
Dimensions: 36 x 25.7 x 39.5 inches
Weight: 27 pounds
Weight/age limit (bassinet): Birth to 20 pounds, or until baby can push up on hands and knees (whichever comes first)
Weight/age limit (toddler seat): 3 months to 50 pounds
"Love my Vista! So great navigating city streets and uneven sidewalks. The undercarriage storage is amazing, too."

Have you ever heard of a stroller that can convert into 23 different seating positions? It sounds unbelievable, but this brand new stroller makes it a reality. The Nuna Demi Grow transforms from a single to a double stroller (baby and toddler) or a twin. What’s more, the stacked seat positioning keeps the bulk of the weight on the back wheels, so that the stroller is easier to maneuver in tight spaces, like city streets, restaurants or narrow stores.
It also has custom dual suspension, so those bumps in the road? They’re no match for you and your crew. You’ll be able to take all types of terrain — and the curbs on city streets — in stride.
There are plenty of conveniences, too. The harness has a magnetic buckle that auto locks, the seat unzips to breathable mesh for hot days, there’s an extremely large UPF+ 50 canopy that’ll keep the sun’s rays from reaching baby’s delicate skin and it has an enviably large storage basket.
Dimensions: 39.5 x 24 x 43.5 inches
Weight: 27.4 pounds
Weight limit: 50 pounds, or up to 45 inches tall
"I have the Nuna Demi Grow and love it... I find it fab to push and love the height adjustable handle. Loads of compliments from people on it and babs sleeps great in it."

Once you experience the ease of maneuvering a Bob Jogging Stroller, you may never want to use any other baby stroller ever again. The beloved jogging stroller is insanely durable and has unmatched suspension (it has a mountain bike-style suspension system!) for a super smooth ride, whether jogging down a trail or taking a stroll around the neighborhood. The model also has oversized tires and an aluminum frame that makes maneuverability a breeze. It truly glides around like butter.
There’s plenty more to love, including convenience features that rival those of your everyday stroller — think things like adjustable handlebars, large undercarriage storage, a magnetic “peek and chat” window and a UV 50+ sun canopy.
When you’re done for the day, it flat, the two-step fold quickly gives it a smaller footprint (although it doesn’t go quite as flat as some other strollers, but you can remove the wheels to make it even more compact if you’re storing it long-term).
Dimensions: 46 x 25 x 45 inches
Weight: 28.5 pounds
Weight limit: 75 pounds
"We love our Bob and it can be pushed through almost anything! It’s worth the price tag! A comfortable ride for babe also."

If the City Mini 2 proves anything, it’s that double strollers don’t have to be cumbersome. While it is 31.8 pounds — nothing to scoff at, but lighter than previous iterations of the beloved stroller by nearly five pounds — it has plenty of features that make it a little easier to maneuver, including a one-handed fold, an adjustable handlebar, forever-air rubber tires, all-wheel suspension and a hand-operated parking brake. Despite pushing two children — a workout regardless of how wonderful your stroller is — this stroller provides a seriously smooth ride.
You’ll also get some nice-to-haves, like peek-a-boo windows to check in on your babies and an adjustable leg area to keep little ones comfortable as they grow. Compared to other doubles, it has a nice slim profile, too — it slips through standard 36-inch doorways. You can also purchase a glider board for older siblings.
Dimensions: 40 x 29.75 x 40 inches
Weight: 31.8 pounds
Weight limit: 50 pounds per seat
"Love the maneuverability... [it] has great control and easy collapse. I also like how pretty much every piece can be taken off and washed. It also has an infant car seat adapter for basically any brand."

Despite the fair price tag (which includes the stroller, car seat and base for a deal that’s practically unheard of), the Chicco Bravo stroller is insanely versatile, transforming its design depending on your family's needs. Attach a Chicco KeyFit car seat to create a car seat carrier, or detach the stroller’s seat completely for a ready-to-roll travel system. Alternatively, you can even just place your baby straight into the stroller’s reclining seat.
The stroller also comes with some handy extras, like a parent tray with storage for your phone and wallet, as well as cup holders, a UPF-rated canopy with a peekaboo mesh window and a large storage basket with both front and rear access. The handle also adjusts to multiple heights to keep caregivers of all heights comfortable.
For the ultimate in convenience, the whole thing folds up in a single one-handed motion.
Dimensions: 35.2 x 22.8 x 42.7 inches
Weight: 24.9 pounds
Weight limit: 50 pounds
"[We] got the Chicco Bravo travel system for [our] first baby. Love the car seat, and the price."

Bugaboo Donkey 5 Mono
![Best strollers Bugaboo Donkey 5](http://images.agoramedia.com/wte3.0/gcms/bugaboo-donkey-5-mono-stroller.jpg)
Love it
Reviews
For parents who want flexibility at any expense, consider the Bugaboo Donkey 5, a super-sleek convertible stroller that can be outfitted in any number of ways. This stroller is offered in three configurations (all at different price points): mono, duo and twin. The mono is an especially great choice for families with one child, as it allows you to switch from a bassinet to a seat or from a single to double stroller. (If you have multiple kids or twins and want more seating options, the duo configuration comes with an extra seat, and the twin configuration comes with an extra seat and an extra bassinet.) Switching configurations isn’t as cumbersome as you might think, either — all it takes is three quick clicks.
The ride is a good one, too — as it should be, given the price. The Donkey 5 improves upon its predecessor (aka the Donkey 3) in a number of ways, like improved maneuverability, an easier fold for storage once you’re home, and an elevated seat and bassinet to bring you closer to baby. What’s more, a narrow frame makes it easy to navigate doorways and tight spaces without assistance — the brand promises the stroller is smaller than you’d think.
There are tons of additional conveniences to look forward to: two spacious storage baskets — one on the side and one underneath, which together carry up to 44 pounds (!) — plus puncture-proof tires, breeze panels to keep baby cool and a self-standing fold.
Weight: 26.9 pounds (mono configuration)
Weight limit: 48.5 pounds per seat
Dimensions: 33.5 x 23.6 x 43.7 inches for lowest handlebar position, 41.7 x 23.6 x 43.7 inches for highest
"The donkey is the most narrow side by side available and can fit through regular doorframe (without car seats attached). It’s so smooth and very 'luxury' feeling. ...The donkey is so easy to maneuver to get out of someone’s way."

Babyzen Yoyo 2 Stroller
![Best strollers Babyzen YOYO2](http://images.agoramedia.com/wte3.0/gcms/babyzen-yoyo2.jpg)

Reviews
The Babyzen Yoyo 2 was one of the first luxury strollers made with travel in mind. You can fold and unfold its extremely compact design with just one hand, and it even fits in the overhead luggage bin on a plane.
The two-position pop-up canopy protects your baby from the elements, and the four-wheel suspension makes sure she never feels the bumps of the road. The stroller itself weighs about 14 pounds, so if you do need to haul it anywhere, it won't be too cumbersome.
The umbrella stroller should be used for babies weighing 16 pounds to 48.5 pounds, but you can purchase the brand's newborn bassinet attachment, sold separately, to use this stroller with infants lying flat and facing you. Note also that the color pack, which includes the seat and canopy fabric, is usually sold separately.
If you have twins or multiple kids and need a double stroller, you can even add on the Yoyo Connect, which easily hooks onto the Yoyo 2. (FYI: The Connect is new as of May 2022.)
Dimensions: 41.7 x 17.3 x 33.9 inches
Weight: 13.6 pounds
Weight limit: 48.5 pounds
"We used the Babyzen YOYO+ for the second time and love love love love it! We see it more and more all over Europe and even on the West coast slowly using it more and more. It’s 12.8 pounds and fits easily in the overhead compartment. We live in Hamburg, Germany and accessibility is not given all the time. It’s easy for me to carry the stroller up and down stairs in subway stations without waiting for help. Thanks to a lightweight board, I can even transport my toddler easily."
